A first look at TU Dance’s eight season

By Julie Sand, TU Dance TU Dance’s eighth season opens this weekend (Nov 18-20) at The O’Shaughnessy at St. Catherine University in Saint Paul, with a world premiere of Artistic Director/Choreographer Uri Sands’ A Subconcious Plastic Nowhere, exploring the nature of a daydream – the potent and sometimes bizarre storytelling of a distracted imagination.  Uri was named “2011 Choreographer of the Year” by City Pages, citing his “gift for subtle provocation, kinetic humor and philosophical wonderment….”

TU Dance, led by Alvin Ailey veterans Toni Pierce-Sands and Uri Sands, has quickly become a leading voice in the Minnesota dance scene.  TU Dance has garnered audience and critical acclaim for its diverse repertory, versatile artists, and for performances that are engaging, dynamic and generous. Modern dance, classical ballet, African based and urban vernacular movements are combined in inventive and unpredictable ways to provide opportunities for audiences to experience the connective power of dance.
