Arts & Science Council ends its first year of Random Acts of Culture™ with a bang

By Aaron Fiedler, Arts & Science Council

Last month the Arts & Science Council wrapped up its Random Act of Culture® performances for the fiscal year.  Opera Carolina, Charlotte Symphony and Passion for Tango all participated in performances on the eve of FY12 . All three groups delighted visitors and shoppers throughout Charlotte and Mecklenburg County.

Opera Carolina was first up on Saturday, June 25 at the Davidson Farmers Market in Davidson, N.C. The group of four performers brought opera to the streets for two hours. Dogs barked, shoppers clapped and babies cried. As usual, the Opera singers were swarmed after each performance with shoppers thanking them for the experience and asking where they might be able to see them again.

With this RAC, the performers and ASC even got a little attention from local media.

A quartet from the Charlotte Symphony and duo from Passion for Tango performed a Random Act of Culture® at Charlotte Douglas International Airport on Thursday, June 30. From the baggage claim area to concourses throughout, the six artists brought a five minute performance that enchanted those who saw it.

As we begin FY12 and our second year with the program, we’re excited to take the lessons learned from this past year and make Random Acts of Culture™ in Charlotte bigger and better. And, as always, be on the lookout, you never know when you’ll experience a Random Act of Culture®!
