Daniel Lewis Sampler: a venue for local talent

The Daniel Lewis Dance Sampler returns to the Little Haiti Cultural Center for two days: Saturday, October 18th at 8 p.m. and Sunday, October 19th at 3 p.m. The Sampler provides local talent a platform to share excerpts of full-length work with the community.

Next weekend, the Sampler will feature local talent, including Dance NOW! Miami, Dale Andree, the TOC Project, New World Dance Ensemble, Pioneer Winter, Ballet Flamenco La Rosa, Repertory Dance Theatre Ensemble, GodoyPradera Projects, Arts Ballet Theater of Florida, and Karen Peterson and Dancers.

For the Sampler, six Karen Peterson dancers will present the “bird section,” an expeditious seven-minute excerpt from GRIT–a full-length multimedia dance work choreographed by Karen Peterson and Katrina Weaver in collaboration with video artist Dinorah de Jesus Rodriguez. Inspiration for the “bird section” came from the birds flocking and their stately, solemn presence in trees. “This inclusive work,” Peterson says, “demonstrates my 25-year commitment and research into physically integrated dance.”

The Daniel Lewis Sampler is on October 18th at 8 p.m. and October 19th at 3 p.m. at the Little Haiti Cultural Complex Theater, 212 NE 59th Terrace, Miami. Free parking. Tickets are $25 for general admission and $15 for students and seniors.
