Coming Home to Music comes together!

Nearly a year into this adventure called Coming Home to Music, we’re excited to see the pieces coming together. And we’re really thrilled to be sharing our vision of creating an intimate, engaging series of concerts that rotate through the homes of Detroit and surrounding area, and feature diverse artists from this musically rich city and beyond.

The inspiration came from the great vibes director Jeff Karoub felt both attending and playing house concerts in and around the city where he got his musical start. The catalyst came when the Knight Foundation (through its Knight Arts Challenge) saw how the project could, in its homegrown way, benefit the city. Knight awarded Coming Home to Music a generous challenge grant, and journalists, artists, homeowners and everyday music lovers reached out to express support, offer to spread the word, ask how to get involved and even contribute to the cause.

Jeff himself has shared the vision by staging fund-raising house concerts and appearing on or in numerous media outlets in Chicago, Lansing, Ann Arbor, Dearborn and Detroit. Coming Home to Music resonates because it’s so simple yet profound: Strip away the artifice and bring music back to where it began, then watch the ripples grow as people take it and make it their own.
