For a literacy program that will help children ages 3 to 8 become proficient in reading by third grade

The literacy program will serve at least 100 children each year. Participating children will gain a greater appreciation of reading and learning. Preschool children will enter elementary school better equipped with the skills and attitudes to help them learn. As a result of this project, the least 80 percent of parents will participate, several times a week, in the new literacy training programs. Outcomes will be measured through parent involvement attendance logs and a survey assessment of children’s school readiness completed by kindergarten teachers from select Title 1 buildings. The program’s education specialist and program director will monitor parent/child reports of changes in reading levels, school readiness and school grades.
