To help Citizen Effect, a young nonprofit based in Washington DC, expand its innovative philanthropy model -- connecting 'citizen philanthropists' directly to projects they care about in their communities

In Philadelphia: Over the course of 2012, Philly4Philly will empower 150 citizen philanthropists to complete 150 community projects in support of Philadelphia area nonprofits.  Each Citizen Philanthropist will receive online and offline fundraising tools, training from experts at Citizen Effect, and an online technology platform to support their efforts. In Detroit: Citizen Effect is using Detroit4Detroit to help 150 Detroiters partner with local organizations to lead 150 social-change projects across the city. While Detroiters connect with their projects on the Internet, Citizen Effect staff also personally coach each “Citizen Philanthropist” on his or her leadership. While partner organizations continue to fundraise and hire for additional initiatives, the network of citizens they’ve partnered with offers a complementary, modern approach to harnessing the natural energy among Detroiters.
