By Locust Projects Locust Projects is pleased to announce a new public art project by New York-based artist Anya Kielar. Yellow Lines, a “sprayogram” resembling a ghostly clothesline displaying dismembered apparel, will be featured on over 30 bus shelters around Miami Beach and the Design District in April and May 2012. Kielar’s work draws upon sources including set design, surrealist collage, post-minimalist sculpture, and decorative arts, while joining varied objects and textures. In Yellow Lines, rows of lace gloves, jewelry, stockings, hair weaves and silhouettes rendered in black, white and yellow create a whimsical, theatrical environment.

Anya Kielar’s installation, Lines, will be on view in Locust Projects’ Project Room from May 12 – June 23, 2012. Conversation with the artist May 12, 6pm. Reception for the artist May 12, 7-10pm. Anya Kielar was born in New York, NY in 1978 and lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. She received her MFA from Columbia University, and has exhibited solo projects at Rachel Uffner Gallery, NY, Daniel Reich Gallery, NY and Casey Kaplan, NY. Kielar has participated in group exhibtions at 176 – Zabludowicz Collection, London, Guild & Greyshkul, White Columns, and Museum 52, NY.

About Out of the Box (OOTB): Since 2010 (with the help of the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation), Locust Projects has inserted contemporary art into Miami’s skies and roadways on billboards, bus shelters and bus backs. This year’s public art commissions extend to bus shelters, continuing increasing community exposure to art in surprising and accessible public locations.

Locust Projects is a not-for-profit exhibition space founded by three Miami artists in 1998 in order to provide contemporary visual artists the freedom to experiment with new ideas and methods without the limitations of conventional exhibition spaces.  Artists are encouraged to create site-specific installations as an extension of their representative work, and Locust Projects offers them a vibrant Miami experience to develop their ideas.
