Young At Art Museum launches 2013 series of spotlight exhibitions with “Annual Interest”

By Chris Feeley, Young At Art Museum Young At Art Museum will launch its 2013 series of group and solo spotlight exhibitions, artist lectures and workshops with Annual Interest on January 11 from 7:30 to 11 p.m.  The 2013 series is designed to support Florida’s contemporary artists by providing them with a venue to display their works, which also greatly enhances the Museum’s innovative gallery experiences for visitors.

Presented by Young At Art’s Bedlam Lorenz Assembly, a cooperative contemporary arts and alternative projects group, Annual Interest will feature the debut of exhibition”No. 1,” that will run through Feb. 7 in the Museum’s Knight Gallery, and feature works by contemporary Florida artists including Leah Brown, Nicole Burko, Martin Casuso, Jessica Laino, Tina Laporta, Francesco Locastro, Pepe Mar, Jillian Mayer, Ben Morey, Jonathan Rockford and Peter Symons.

Nicole Burko, who recently exhibited at Art Basel, is working on a large painting entitled “Crevasse,” which will debut at Annual Interest. Originally from Canada, Burko moved to South Florida as a teen and started free diving. Inspired by the feeling of being underwater, Burko conveys that on canvas. Contemporary artist Martin Casuso uses mixed media to transform “something purely utilitarian or decorative” into a work of personal meaning.

All of the artists participating in Annual Interest lend their artistic voices to create a unique and compelling exhibition. Proceeds from the evening’s fundraising raffle, featuring more than 50 contemporary artists, will benefit Young At Art Museum’s programs for underserved and at-risk youth.
