THE APPLICATION PERIOD IS NOW CLOSED. WINNERS WILL BE ANNOUNCED IN LATE SUMMER.

Celebrate Charlotte Arts funds ideas by and for residents of Charlotte that showcase artistic excellence and capture the spirit of the city. The open call for ideas aims to highlight the talent and creativity of Charlotte’s arts community.

It will culminate in a Knight-sponsored showcase of the funded projects at BOOM Festival in Spring 2020, sharing the resulting artworks with the Charlotte community.

Winning projects will receive up to $25,000 from a pool of $200,000.

WHO SHOULD APPLY?

Anyone can apply, whether you’re an individual artist, artist collective, nonprofit organization or for-profit business. Keep in mind the following criteria:

  • Projects must be for the arts, take place in Charlotte, and be created or presented by Charlotte-based artists or organizations.

  • Projects may be new ideas or works-in-progress.

  • Proposed projects must be completed by Spring 2020 and prior to the Knight-sponsored showcase.

  • Artists and organizations with active Knight Foundation grants are not eligible for funding through Celebrate Charlotte Arts.

HOW WILL KNIGHT FOUNDATION EVALUATE APPLICATIONS?

Submissions are evaluated with the assistance of a panel of local arts experts, community members and Knight staff.

At Knight, we are not prescriptive: We don’t tell artists what to create or organizations what to present. Selected projects will reflect the breadth and diversity of the Charlotte arts community, and showcase local creative work.

SCHEDULE

Submissions are being accepted from April 27 – 12:00 p.m. ET to 11:59 p.m. ET June 7, 2019.

Winners will be announced in late summer.

The winning projects will be presented at a Knight-sponsored showcase at BOOM Festival in Spring 2020.
