Alex Meza joined Knight Foundation in 2026 and serves as chief financial officer and treasurer. Prior to joining Knight Foundation, Alex spent nearly twenty-five years working his way up through the leadership ranks at Gannett Co., Inc.

Most recently, he served as vice president corporate development at Gannett Co., Inc. an innovative, digitally focused media and marketing solutions company. In that role, Meza helped shape long-term planning that informed the company’s decision to spin off its publishing business as a separate publicly traded company in 2015. Over the course of his career, he also held a range of finance and operational roles across local publishing, financial planning, technology and business operations.

He began his career in the finance department of The Desert Sun Publishing Co., a subsidiary of Gannett Co., Inc., and his hometown newspaper where he worked in the accounting department as a staff accountant.

Meza earned an MBA from the University of Arizona and a BA in business economics with a concentration in accounting from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
