Dan Avery, Alan Williams and Katie Lewis hail from various cities in the U.S., but they now share something in common: they are hanging out in Akron, Ohio!

These three Code for America fellows arrived in Akron on Feb. 2 as part of a partnership between Summit County and Code for America, a San Francisco based non-profit that helps cities and counties use technology to open up access to government.  The fellows will work with the county to help build a technology solution for mapping out Summit’s vast and wonderful array of hiking, biking and water trails.

But they won’t do it alone. For the past month, the fellows have met with residents and leaders of Summit to find out how they use the park system, and to get ideas toward solving the problem of access to the park. Knight Foundation provided a $250,000 grant to help this project launch. On Feb. 19, the fellows had a chance to engage with Akron residents at a Knight Community breakfast and share their thoughts on how to approach this community-led project.  Stay tuned, the coding part starts soon!
