“Camp X-Ray” at the Coral Gables Art Cinema

Kristen Stewart stars as a Guantanamo Bay guard in “Camp X-Ray,” an official selection for the Sundance Film Festival.

“Camp X-Ray.”

“Camp X-Ray” is a drama that takes the viewer inside the mysterious labyrinthine world of Gitmo through the eyes of a female guard. Originally written for a man to play, Stewart, best known for her role as Bella Swan in the “Twilight Saga” series, befriends a detainee. Through this relationship, the guard acquires a nuanced understanding of the war on terror and the fine shifting line between villain and victim.

The film and Stewart have garnered praise for trying to unravel the mystery that shrouds Gitmo and the lives of the guards and detainees who inhabit that island base.
