Miami Beach Cinematheque hosts Speaking in Cinema Sept 24

By Monica Peña, Miami Beach Cinematheque Miami Beach Cinematheque is excited to welcome dedicated cinephiles and curious newcomers to our third evening of Speaking in Cinema on Wednesday, September 24th at 7pm.

Speaking in Cinema, a Knight Arts Challenge winner, celebrates the art of cinema by inviting filmmakers and film critics to engage in conversation about the films we program, the finest in international art cinema.

This event will feature James Franco’s film Child of God, based on the novel by Cormac McCarthy, the chilling tale of Lester Ballard, a dispossessed, violent man attempting to exist outside the social order.  The film’s star, Scott Haze, named one of Variety’s 10 Actors to Watch, will join us in conversation with Variety’s Chief Film Critic Justin Chang and Miami arthouse critic Andres Solar.

Audiences can look forward to an in-depth conversation touching on cinema and literary adaptations, ongoing collaborations between Haze and Franco, and Haze’s experience living in rural Tennessee’s isolated caves to prepare for his role.

The evening will begin with complimentary espresso beverages courtesy of our sponsor Nespresso and conclude with a wine and cheese after-party amid the fine art collection at our sponsor hotel, the Sagamore.

Child of God premieres exclusively at Miami Beach Cinematheque on Friday, September 19th and closes Sunday, September 28th, giving audiences ample opportunities to view the film prior to Speaking in Cinema and after.   With the Knight Foundation’s support, Miami Beach Cinematheque is excited to elevate the cinematic discourse Miami’s cinephiles are ready for and build our city’s reputation as a place where great filmmakers, thinkers, and movie-lovers have stimulating conversations that inspire ideas.

Speaking in Cinema with Scott Haze, Justin Chang, and Andres Solar.  Wednesday, September 24th, at 7pm.  Miami Beach Cinematheque, 1130 Washington Ave, Miami Beach.  Tickets are $11 adults, $9 students & seniors, $8 MBC members.  More info at www.mbcinema.com.
