Knight Foundation-NORC Poll: Americans see growing government influence over news

A free press is essential to well-informed communities and a thriving democracy. Recent months have seen numerous reports of government and corporate actions that risk undermining the independence of the news media to fulfill its constitutionally-protected role in our society. Knight Foundation and NORC at the University of Chicago fielded a new survey to understand Americans’ views of this democratic institution, including perceived pressures and levels of concern.
