EPISODE 19: TOWARD THE LIGHT: GIFTS AND LESSONS OF CREATING AMID DISTRESS
A new year has brought COVID-19 vaccinations and, with them, some hope for the end of the pandemic. As we reflect on the trauma and growth of the past year, we’re also preparing for what comes next. On Episode 19 of “DISCOVERY”, we’ll explore the experience of creating art during a year of unprecedented challenges—and the unexpected gifts and lessons that come with it. Priya Sircar, director of Knight’s arts program, will host a conversation between choreographer Jennifer Harge, founder of Detroit’s Harge Dance Stories and curator Sarah Bishop-Stone, founder of The Philadelphia Thing and Trade School, a Philadelphia-Detroit artist residency exchange through which Harge developed the most recent iteration of her piece FLY | DROWN. They’ll discuss how they rethought their work during the past year, and how that experience will inform the future of their respective practices.
