Here’s a show you may have missed last month. Yet Nightly Pitch My Moving Tent is an exhibition by Miami-based artist Gustavo Roman currently on view at the David Castillo Gallery, but only until this Saturday. The show consists of a series of black and white drawings, each depicting some variation of a shadowy and darkened bedroom, with lumps of various sizes emerging from the sheets. There is also a video installation that features an animated version of these drawings.

 The phrase “pitch a tent” as defined by the urban dictionary refers to having “an erection while lying down so that the sheets covering you pop up like a tent with a pole in the middle.” Roman’s drawings are obsessively concerned with this subject matter to the point of ridiculousness and absurdity. As this series of drawings evolves, you start off with an empty bed (always an empty bed. No people are ever depicted in these drawings) and one lump in the sheets, like a mouse crawling under the covers. As you continue you start to see more and more bumps underneath the sheets, some larger than others in size. A wall at the far end of the gallery has the drawings taking on even more ridiculous variations on the theme, with tall bulges protruding from folded up bedspreads.
