Merce & Me: Alberto Ibargüen
Knight Foundation President & CEO Alberto Ibargüen served as a board member to the Merce Cunningham Dance Company and was instrumental in bringing the company to Miami for a 10-day residency program at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts in 2007. Today he reflects on his relationship with the choreographer and shares a video tribute…
“Merce Cunningham died a week ago. He and John Cage were huge influences on my life. I am unbelievably lucky to have known both of them over many years. My service on the Merce Cunningham Dance Company was one of my happiest assignments and bringing them to Miami for a two-week residency a couple of years ago was a dream come true.
This morning, a friend sent this link leading to a short clip from Channel 13, the PBS affiliate in NY. It is a short synopsis of his work, his philosophy of dance and manner of working, and its origins. I hope you watch it and enjoy.” -Alberto Ibargüen, President & CEO of The Knight Foundation
