New Knight Foundation trustee wins humanitarian award in Akron
Today, Knight Foundation is excited to announce that William H. Considine, president and CEO of Akron’s Children’s Hospital is joining the board of trustees. Considine was honored last night, as Akron Program Director Jennifer Thomas writes:
New Knight Foundation trustee Bill Considine, president and CEO of Akron Children’s Hospital, received the Polsky Humanitarian Award on Tuesday night in Akron. The award was established in 1969 to honor the late Bert A. Polsky, president of the former Polsky department stores and a founding trustee of Akron Community Foundation.

Considine has served as president and chief executive of the pediatric hospital for 32 years. He chairs the Austen BioInnovation Institute in Akron and serves on the Akron Biomedical Corridor executive board and as a member of the Greater Akron Chamber board of trustees. He has held numerous other community leadership roles, including serving on the boards of the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Archbishop Hoban High School, Children’s Family Care, Big Brothers & Big Sisters of Greater Akron, Children’s Miracle Network and the United Way of Summit County.
Bill is a an exemplary civic and business leader who has been a guiding force for the Austen BioInnovation Institute. Bill lives by his mantra, “It’s better to give more than you take, you get more back in the long run.”
