This weekend go digital with Detroit Symphony Orchestra

This weekend, innovation in the arts continues in Detroit. On Sunday, starting at 3:00 p.m, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra will present a live digital simulcast of its performance, French Masters: Franck, Saint-Saëns and Debussy. The simulcast is free to all online users who register. Dennis Scholl, vice president/arts at Knight Foundation, blogged about the upcoming performance, writing the digital simulcasts are “one of our more exciting Detroit projects. The energy is amazing and you feel like you are there.” The performance will feature Maestra Hélène Bouchez leading Franck’s Symphony in D minor. It also features the debut of 17 year-old piano phenom Conrad Tao, who will perform Saint-Saëns second piano concerto. For those looking for a sneak preview, the orchestra has updated its Google+ page with exclusive behind-the-scene photos from this week’s rehearsals. In 2011, Knight supported the Detroit Symphony Orchestra’s digital media plan in an effort to make its work accessible to a worldwide network of music lovers. Building on the success, Knight is now supporting the orchestra’s digital concert series, with 13 additional performances, taking place between January and June, 2012. The Detroit Examiner recently profiled the digital series citing it as: “The first major American orchestra to produce a series of its kind.” It notes previous simulcasts have had 25,000 viewers from over 40 countries. More information the full series of other upcoming simulcasts and archives of previous performances are available online.
