YOUMedia Miami helps teen prepare for college

The following is part of an in-depth look at how YOUMedia Miami is a creative space for teens to experiment with digital media. Below, Winnie Jean-Enard, age 20, writes about the impact of the program. She is now a staff writer at her college newspaper and recently wrote “Senate Elections.”

My name is Winnie Jean-Enard and I am a sophomore majoring in history with a minor in philosophy. I lived in Miami for about two years and moved to Tampa after receiving a scholarship to attend Saint Leo University.

Although I had never planned to be a part of YOUMedia, my decision to join was among the best during my high school time.  The experiences I received there were priceless. The mentors helped me fill out many forms necessary for college, one of which was the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).  Because I completed that form in time, I received over $20,000 in scholarships and met some wonderful people along the way.

YOUMedia offers a rich abundance of technologies necessary for the success of today’s youth. I was truly blessed to be a part of YOUMedia and I deeply appreciated the help of the mentors and staff. From the bottom of my heart, I thank the sponsors of this program.
