Francisco L. Borges was elected chair of Knight Foundation’s board of trustees in 2019. He joined the board in 2011.

Borges is a partner and co-head of Secondary Solutions at Ares Management. Prior to joining Ares in 2021, Borges was chairman and managing partner of Landmark, where he directed Landmark’s strategic planning and investment activities.

Borges is chairman of the board of directors of Assured Guaranty Ltd., and is member of the board of directors of Hartford HealthCare Corporation, Selected/ Clipper Funds and trustee of Millbrook School. Borges was twice elected Connecticut state treasurer and also served as deputy mayor of the city of Hartford and legal counsel for The Travelers Insurance Company.

Borges received a B.A. from Trinity College and a J.D. from the University of Connecticut School of Law. He is a former member of the Connecticut and New Jersey Bars.
