About
Marta Viciedo joined Knight Foundation in January 2024 as the director of the Miami program. Prior to joining Knight, Marta was a social impact entrepreneur whose expertise lies is at the intersection of urban planning, civic engagement and public policy. She was the co-founder of Urban Impact Lab, a Miami-based civic innovation firm focused on building vibrant, resilient and prosperous communities by strengthening the relationship between people and place.
Under Marta’s leadership, Urban Impact Lab worked alongside Transit Alliance Miami, an organization she also founded, to transform Miami-Dade’s approach to transit. Together, they played a pivotal role in spearheading an expansive transit advocacy effort, which established new transit routes and fostered the development of walkable streets, bike-friendly neighborhoods and adaptable transit solutions tailored to the evolving needs of the community.
Marta also launched Axis Helps Miami, a platform connecting Miami small business owners to essential economic tools and resources for growth, and spearheaded engagement initiatives with organizations and entities such as The Miami Foundation, Van Alen Institute and Miami-Dade County, catalyzing community involvement in issues affecting housing, resilience and public space.
Marta has served on prominent boards, including those of Transit Alliance Miami and the Miami Downtown Development Authority. A graduate of The Miami Foundation’s Miami Fellows program, Marta holds a master’s in urban and regional planning, complemented by a background in biology and scientific research. Marta lives in Downtown Miami with her husband and two daughters.
