Rebecca Carland joined Knight Foundation in 2025 and serves as chief investment officer. 

Prior to joining Knight Foundation, Carland spent fifteen years overseeing assets for prominent U.S. and international families and foundations. Most recently, she served as chief investment officer at Builders Vision, a private family office and impact investment platform. Carland also held senior investment and advisory roles at Walton Enterprises, Cambridge Associates and Goldman Sachs. She began her career in the U.S. Department of Justice, supporting international rule-of-law programs.

Carland currently serves on the Investment Committees of the Obama Foundation and Conservation International. She earned an MBA from the University of Virginia and a BA in international relations from Tufts University.
