2009 Knight Arts Challenge Winners
20 winners emerged from 1,562 applicants today to win $3.7 million in the 2009 Knight Arts Challenge. Winning projects include: * Reinstalling a live orchestra at the Miami City Ballet * Creating an arts incubator Wynwood * Launching an online site for selling & promoting locally-produced music For a complete list of winners click here. The Knight Arts Challenge is a five-year community-wide contest created by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation to bring together the South Florida community. “We want artists in South Florida to tell us what moves them and by supporting them, we think we move the soul of the community,” says Knight Foundation president and CEO Alberto Ibargüen. The Knight Arts Challenge will accept applications next year for the third round of its community grants contest. The winners emerged from a pool of 1.562 applicants and will complete such projects as:
- Reinstalling a live orchestra at the Miami City Ballet
- Creating an arts incubator Wynwood
- Launching an online site for selling & promoting locally-produced music
Winners and guests joined Alberto Ibargüen, Knight Foundation president and CEO, and Dennis Scholl, Miami program director, at the Knight Concert Hall at the Arsht Center for an awards presentation and cocktails.
