“50 Shades! The Musical” premieres at the Grand Opera House
Next Sunday, if you happen to drive down Mulberry Street past the Grand Opera House and wonder why so many women from college age to your grandma’s age are lined up to enter, just know that “50 Shades! The Musical” is showing at 7 p.m. This theatrical production is a parody of E.L. James bestselling novel, Fifty Shades of Grey. The producers of “50 Shades! The Musical” are Marshall Cordell, Albert Samuels and Emily Dorezas, and it’s especially for ages 18 and up.
Although the plot of this show is narrated by three housewives who choose to read Fifty Shades of Grey for their book club meeting, it does not exclude the contents of the storyline in the book. The on-stage parody does not depict any nudity. However, the simulation of sex scenes, along with the conversation topics, will leave you with little to imagine.
“50 Shades! The Musical” contains adult topics that some may find controversial. The Grand Opera House’s stage will be graced with a sofa that transitions to a bed, along with a cast of interesting characters. “50 Shades! The Musical” also travels with a live band.
While it’s not necessary, it may be a good idea to read the book before attending this parody. Even though this show presents some risqué topics, “50 Shades! The Musical” has been selling out shows all over the United States, and the book has sold numbers that beat J.K. Rowling in the United Kingdom.
Showtime is Sunday, May 18 at 7 p.m., and tickets range from $37 to $47.
