A varied art night at ArtCenter

From the “Correspndences” exhibit, 924 space of ArtCenter.

True to its new mission to expand the programming — both in quantity and to varied disciplines — ArtCenter/South Florida (a Knight Arts grantee) will host a number of events tomorrow, Wednesday night, that should offer up a little something for everyone.

Starting the evening off will be an artists’ talk revolving around the exhibit in the 924 space (that’s the one upstairs in the middle of Lincoln Road, which at night looks so alluring from the street when it is lit up). Titled “Correspondences,” it is an experimental, work-in-progress show with video, photography and related objects, addressing the nature of memory as it relates to identity. Two artists (one a current ArtCenter resident, Marina Font; the other a former resident, Amalia Caputo) delve into communal and individual stories to explore this interaction through their art.

The panel will include the two artists, Dina Mitrani — whose Wynwood gallery concentrates on photography — and an artist with an architectural background, Leila Leder Kramer. A reception will follow.

In the same building, catch the first full season of the Subtropics’ organized Listening Club, part of the Listening Gallery (also a Knight Arts grantee), at the Audiotheque space run by director Gustavo Matamoros. Dig the first one: “Egg(s)Travinsky,” an audio exhibit exploring the link between progressive rock and modern music based on the music of Egg and the great original experimenter himself, Stravinsky.

Over in the main space at the corner, where the works of artists from the Carol Jazzar gallery are currently on display as the first in that “pop-up” series, another musical event will take place. “Impromptu” will be performed by New World Symphony throughout the evening. As the tempting invite reads: “Unlike a conventional concert, you won’t need a ticket, you can arrive at any time, sit or stand anywhere you like, and stay for five minutes or all night.” Alright!

Panel talk begins at 6 p.m., followed by reception for “Correspondences” starting at 7 p.m. “Egg(s)Travinsky starts at 7 p.m., both at 924 Lincoln Rd., Miami Beach. “Impromptu” runs from 7-9 p.m. at the 800 Building, Lincoln Rd., Miami Beach; www.artcentersf.org.
