Actor John Lithgow meets Random Acts of Culture™
By the Adrienne Arsht Center staff
The Random Acts of Culture™ team is used to surprising the public with performances by Miami-based professional artists, but this month it ran into its own random surprise when actor John Lithgow appeared in the crowd of spectators at Miami International Airport. Lithgow, known for his roles in 3rd Rock from the Sun and Terms of Endearment, spotted the Rosie Herrera Dance Theatre Company performing a Valentine’s Day treat to The Flamingoes’ “I Only Have Eyes for You” and “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life,” by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes, from the movie Dirty Dancing.
The piece began with a dancer holding a sign that said “YOU” and wandering through the crowd as if searching for that special someone. Once he found “HER” they did a beautiful duet. Four pairs of dancers joined in for a romantically choreographed piece. The pace picked up when the song from Dirty Dancing came on. Dancers snatched people up from seats to join them. Onlookers quickly transformed from weary, waiting travelers to smiling dancers. Lithgow posed for photos with the dancers before running off to catch his plane.
