Alternative Space Weekend

The Bas Fisher Invitational’s Super 8 movie night from earlier this month was such a resounding success that the artist-run alternative space is having a repeat of the event tonight at 7:30 p.m. Hosted by local artists, Barron Shearer and Kevin Arrow, it’s the only movie night in town that screens their films on vintage and obsolete Super 8 format, you’re surely in for a unique experience.

This time around it’ll be Miami-based artists Christy Gast and Damian Rojo choosing and providing the selection of surprise Super 8’s for viewing. Also, visiting FSU poet, Frank Giampietro, will be on hand to deliver his verse between films. As Barron Shearer put’s it, it’s a night that’s “Still way better than Avatar.”

Meanwhile, look forward to the closing reception of Exhibition 24 this Saturday from 7 p.m. to midnight at the Twenty Twenty Projects Space in Hialeah. This show featuring artists, Nathan Danilowicz, Jay Hines, Alexandra Kuechenberg, Justin Long, Daniel Newman, Tao Rey, and Matt Schreiber has been up since December, but if you haven’t made the trek yet to the Hialeah warehouse, now is a good time to check out the show before it’s gone for good.
