Apply for AMP Camp 2014

By Allied Media Projects

AMP Camp is a retreat for Detroit-based artist-educators. It will take place Saturday, August 16 through Wednesday, August 20, 2014, at a group of beachside cabins in Silver Lake, MI. Now in its third year, AMP Camp is like an intense and intimate version of the Allied Media Conference.

This year’s AMP Camp will focus on the theme “Creative Cognition: Understanding one’s own creative process in order to understand how to facilitate creativity in others.” AMP Camp is facilitated by an all-star team of artist-educators including Adrienne Maree Brown, Althea Baird, Nate Mullen, Una Lee, and Sterling Toles. It is designed by retreat-engineer extraordinaire, Diana J. Nucera.

This four-day retreat is open to all Detroit-based artist-educators looking to restore their creative selves as they continue the work of nurturing creativity in others. We are looking for artist-educators who have a long-term commitment to Detroit, a commitment to social justice, and who understand creativity as a process of transformation. The retreat will include skill-sharing from long-time artist-educators, large-group conversation, individual reflection and creation time.

The true cost of this retreat is close to $1,500 per person. But thanks to a generous grant from the Knight Arts Challenge, the registration fee is only $200, which includes transportation, lodging and meals for all four days. A limited number of scholarships are available to those who cannot pay the full amount.

The deadline to apply is July 1, 2014. Email [email protected] with any questions.
