Most people know Tigertail Productions because of the cutting-edge performance, dance and spoken word the organization both nurtures and delivers to South Florida. And rightly so. Since 1979, Tigertail has introduced local audiences to an eclectic mix of dance and performance from across the globe that never would have rolled up on shore without the tightly curated vision of founder and director Mary Luft. Just this year Tigertail brought in the acclaimed Japanese experimental duo Eiko & Koma and the great jazz guitarist Bill Frisell. It’s produced and presented indigenous events, such as the Miami Poetry Collective and its annual publication, the teen WordSpeak, the gay and lesbian SpeakOut and the festival of mixed-ability dance, danceAble.

But many people don’t know what a strong supporter of visual arts Luft has been through the years, including through workshops and grants, and even putting an artist’s work on the covers of the publications.

During the yearly fundraiser, Tigertail also holds an art auction that later goes online, with works from well-regarded local artists. This year the Tigertail Bold Adventures Online Art Auction will run through June 26 at 6 p.m.

It’s one of those rare times where you stand to get a lot more than you give, to benefit a proven anchor organization.

So up online for the bidding is, for instance, the burnt woodwork from Loriel Beltran, “Damaged Works.” The piece should be familiar to anyone who saw his solo show, “Falseworks,” earlier this year at the Snitzer Gallery, with its incredible vertical sculptures crafted from discarded shipping crates, formerly used to ship … art. There’s a colorful mixed media on paper piece from Gene Moreno. Check out both and see how shockingly affordable these are. The work from another standout local sculptor, Ralph Provisero, made of cedar and steel, is almost literally a steal. Works from Adler Guerrier, Edouard Duval Carrie, Robert Chambers, Mette Tommerup, Tom Scicluna, Samantha Salzinger and a number of others make up the artist roster — not a bunch of stuff thrown at the wall, so to speak, but a specifically curated grouping.
