Ballet Nacional de España returns to Miami
Spain’s premier dance company, Ballet Nacional de España, returns to Miami, Feb. 23-26, 2011, to the Arsht Center for a week of performances during Flamenco Festival Miami 2011. “The South Florida community enthusiastically embraced Flamenco
Festival Miami from the very first soleá,” said M. John Richard, president and CEO of the Adrienne Arsht Center. “This year’s engagement sets new records – presenting the largest Flamenco Festival production in Adrienne Arsht Center history.”
With more than 40 performers, Ballet Nacional de España is set to ignite the stage with their fierce and passionate flamenco. The program includes La Leyenda, choreographed by José Antonio, and Dualia, choreographed by the award-winning team of Angel Rojas and Carlos Rodriguez. La Leyenda is described as an affectionate tribute to the Spanish dance legend Carmen Amaya. It tells the story of one woman’s grandeur and solitude and honors the humanity of the performer and her immortal legacy. In Dualia, Rojas and Rodriguez honor the deep roots of flamenco while updating the choreography with an eye toward the future of flamenco. Dualia is dramatic, visually stunning, modern dance that reveals the expressive beauty flamanco has to offer the audience.
It’s been almost 10 years since Ballet Nacional de España has performed in Miami. Don’t miss this opportunity to see Spain’s foremost ambassadors of flamenco during Flamenco Festival Miami 2011.
