Beatles and the Tosco Music Party once again come together

This Saturday, June 18 is the Eighth Annual Beatles Tribute presented by John Tosco. It is just like a Tosco Music Party, only Beatles songs are performed. The format of the evening is one song by each of a variety of approximately 25 scheduled acts (professional and amateur) who donate their time and talent. The evening is an eclectic mix of all styles of music and includes Tosco’s trademark sing-a-longs.

Two decades ago, Tosco invited a few of his musician friends for an informal song circle/jam session in his living room. These “music parties” became a way to gather with friends and fellow musicians to create an evening of acoustic music. Through the years, and largely by word of mouth, the Tosco Music Parties have grown in size and scope. What began in Tosco’s living room soon moved to larger venues.

It’s the power of music and a sense of inclusion that make these concerts a truly unique experience. The group has never done any paid advertising, yet the Tosco Music Parties continue to grow and gain momentum. Part of this must be attributed to John Tosco, himself. Tosco is a musician, teacher and one of the most generous artists in our area. For years, he shares his love of music with different audiences, while, at the same time, providing something much needed in the music world, an opportunity for artists to perform.

Two local rising stars who will be playing their own favorite Beatles tune June 18, a singer-songwriter team “The Cloers,” know firsthand the joy of working with Tosco. John and Cate Cloer say that “The Tosco Music Parties are a big personal inspiration in both a creative and nurturing sense. To be able to see other musicians pursuing their art and seeing a large audience be so responsive and appreciative was very influential in spurring us on to pursue our own desire to make music.”

The Eighth Annual Beatles Tribute is June 18 at the Knight Theater in uptown Charlotte from 7 to 10 p.m. Tickets are $20 (adults), $15 (65 and older) and $12 (15 and younger). Group discounts are available. Whichever Tosco Music Party you attend, here are several things you can count on: There will be a variety of musicians, styles and even ages of performers, as well as professional artists and amateurs. The audience will also be diverse in age and background. And, finally, expect Tosco’s signature “sing-a-longs.”

How many of us love to belt one out when no one else is around? These sing-a-longs are great because everyone in the audience is singing, and, put simply, it is a great feeling to be a part of this larger experience. Now, pick your favorite Beatles tune and imagine singing it out loud accompanying many talented musicians. Go get your tickets for this annual not-to-be-missed concert.
