Broomsticks and trash cans at the SMDCAC
This Saturday, July 13th at 8 p.m. Culture Shock Miami presents the dynamic Street Beat at the South Miami-Dade Cultural Arts Center (SMDCAC). Street Beat is an urban dance and drum troupe that fuses African, Cuban, Latin, West African and jazz with breakdance, hip hop and other “street” dance.
Known for fired-up performances that appeal to young adults, Street Beat extends their street cred by using found objects as homemade instruments. Tire rims, broomsticks, trash cans, bottles and water buckets are all used to create a vibrant, gritty soundtrack.
The shocking thing about Street Beat: the cost is only $5 for young adults ages 13 – 22 and just $10 & $15 for general admission. Culture Shock Miami is committed to bringing high quality artists to Miami during the off-season and arranging education and outreach events with the community. As an added bonus, the Street Beat cast will lead a workshop for all education levels at the SMDCAC Saturday, July 13 at 11 a.m. RSVP with Gerry Landreth at 305-375-1949.
Street Beat, Saturday July 13 at 8 p.m., South Miami-Dade Cultural Arts Center, 10950 SW 211 St., Cutler Bay. Cost: $5 for 13-22 year olds and a $5 ticket for a companion of any age.
