Spark a child’s musical creativity and that child may become the next Mozart, DJ Maus or even Lady Gaga. Bruce Mack, a creative arts educator based in New York, has developed music programs for public schools and youth organizations for more than 15 years. This summer he will conduct music workshops at the Cultural Center of Spain in Miami for two sessions (2 weeks each), July 9th – 20th and July 30th – August 10th, 2012.

When I took my first creative writing workshop as an adult, I discovered that I wanted to be a writer. I didn’t know what kind of writer I want to be. I just wanted to write. I wasn’t sure if what I had written that day was good or bad, and I didn’t care, because I craved more of the creative energy that emerged from my body and found an outlet through my fingertips. The workshop changed my life.

“The fact is that given the challenges we face, education doesn’t need to be reformed — it needs to be transformed,” writes Sir Ken Robinson. “The key to this transformation is not to standardize education, but to personalize it, to build achievement on discovering the individual talents of each child, to put students in an environment where they want to learn and where they can naturally discover their true passions.”

Bruce Mack creates environments where kids can naturally discover their true passions. His workshops are not designed as formal music training, but rather as incubators and inspirational safe spaces for kids to experiment and ignite their inherent musical talents. However, Mack’s magic transcends music because he believes that music and the arts are catalysts, universal languages, that help to develop a child’s aptitude for other subjects, like math, science and history
