Since its opening last fall with Steven Martin playing the banjo with the Steep Canyon Rangers bluegrass group, Knight Theater has had diverse programming on its stage. From Alvin Ailey to a Monterey Jazz Festival trio to the locally produced Tosco Music Party, all the performances I’ve attended have had enthusiastic audiences. I was delighted to read today’s news about the Charlotte Symphony’s plans to offer a more casual concert series in the theater. The Symphony draws big crowds to its summer pops series each June. This seems, in some ways, an extension of that. You get to hear great music in a welcoming space without having to pack a picnic. And, I can attest, there’s no bad seat in the house. I’ve had seats near the front and on the back row of the balcony. All are good. Here’s hoping this effort by the Symphony pays off. Click here to read today’s Charlotte Observer article.
