DawnTown – Knight Foundation

DawnTown

Open call to all architects, artists, and designers. You could have a hand in shaping the new face of Miami. DawnTown is looking for creative architectural ideas for a new Metromover station, set to be located in the downtown area, just off Museum Park — the future home by 2012 of the Miami Art Museum and the Miami Science Museum.

The international DawnTown competition happens every year with the lofty goal of creating a dynamic new look of Downtown Miami. Last year it sought submissions from all around the world to revamp the structure of the nearby sewage station on Biscayne Boulevard. This year they’re hoping for an innovative new look for the Metromover station.

It’s not the first time something like this has been done in Miami. There’s of course the famous giant red M at the Riverwalk Metromover stop in downtown by architect/artists Roberto Behar and Rosario Marquardt.

Registration has already begun for the competition, with the last date to register on October 14 and an entry materials deadline on October 28. The grand prize is $8,000, with second prize at $4,000, and third at $2,000.

The 2009 award ceremony will coincide with the Art Basel Miami celebration, held December 4 at the Marquis luxury condo and hotel tower just across the street from the North edge of Museum Park.
