Diaspora Women’s Dance Festival

The Hanan Arts Cooperative and the Mideastern Dance Exchange present the Diaspora Women’s Dance Festival, a weekend of meditation and exploration of dance workshops that culminate in a performance on Saturday, March 8th at 8 p.m.

Kaeshi Chai.

The culminating performance highlights cross-cultural and interdisciplinary artists Michelle Grant Murray, belly-dancers Valerick Molinary, Alicia of Bellycraft and Francesca Sahar. Nur Ayubi will also perform a dance monologue, “Dancing My (Mother’s) Body,” a project developed by Tiffany ‘Hanan’ Madera, the director of the Hanan Arts Cooperative.

The festival, hosted by Arts at St. Johns and conceived by Tiffany Madera, explores movement and expression of gendered spaces, specifically from a female perspective. The festival also explores how culture influences those spaces. The weekend includes dance workshops integrating spirituality, innovation, empowerment, collaboration and engagement between dancers, students and audiences across South Florida.

New York-based artist Kaeshi Chai will lead the workshops, which take place March 7-8 at Belly2Abs dance studio in Miami. (For more information and to register, visit www.Belly2Abs.com.)
