Dinorah de Jesús Rodriguez is an artist in action
Dinorah de Jesús Rodriguez is a multi-talented artist and a significant voice for women and Miami’s cultural continuity. Her work as an experimental filmmaker pushes the boundaries of cinema to create politically minded work that attempts to change perceptions within segments of the population and the community at large.
This Friday, May 23rd at 7 p.m., Rodriguez will hold an open forum discussion about her work, inspirations and its impact on culture at the Girls’ Club Fort Lauderdale. During this discussion, Rodriguez will talk about her handcrafted 16mm films, which combine video, performance and on-site installation. One of the Rodriguez’s most recent works, “mujer_cita_MIA,” takes activism into the women’s restrooms throughout Miami-Dade County. Although the videos have not been broadly installed in bathrooms yet, the goal of the project is to create awareness around issues of rape, domestic violence and gender discrimination. Girls’ Club is located in downtown Fort Lauderdale, by the 3rd Avenue Art District and Flagler Village area, at 117 NE 2nd St., Fort Lauderdale. The event is free and open to the public.
