Distinguished guest dancers to appear at UNCC Faculty Concert

Lloyd Knight, member of Martha Graham Dance Company.

The University of North Carolina Charlotte Department of Dance is having its annual Faculty Concert this weekend, on September 27 and 28, in the Anne R. Belk Theater of Robinson Hall at 7:30 p.m. The event will feature four works: “Crossings,” “Traces,” “and how to be in two places at once” and “Body Embody Body.”  Distinguished guest artists Francisco Ruvalcaba of the Limón Dance Company, and Lloyd Knight and Lorenzo Pagano of the Martha Graham Dance Company will be performing with UNCC Faculty.

Collaboration characterizes this year’s concert; each work is developed from creative partnerships. “Crossings,” choreographed and danced by Ruvalcaba and UNCC Assistant Professor of Dance Kim Jones, incorporates Limón and Graham techniques. Knight and Pagano will dance “Traces,” which was choreographed by Jones and is a work in progress. The AGA Collaborative, a trio of artist/scholars, choreographed “and how to be in two places at once,” which will examine questions about connection, intimacy and presence. Finally, “Body Embody Body” is a contact improvisation duet performed by UNCC Associate Professor E.E. Balcos and guest dancer Alicia Grayson with live piano music by Dan Knight.

Tickets for $14, adults; $9, UNCC faculty/staff; $6, students. Tickets can be purchased online or by calling 704-687-1849. Don’t miss this innovative and collaborative night of dance.
