Elska Zeidel LAB at Inkub8

In many ways, dance is the art of flight and finding a way to lift our bodies against the pull of gravity may be the closest we’ll ever get to freedom — at least that’s how I feel.

Elska Zeidel at Inkub8, September 2012.

If you want to learn how to fly and free yourself from Earth’s gravity, come to Inkub8 (a Knight Arts grantee) and meet Elska Zeidel next Tuesday, September 4 (11 a.m.-1 p.m.) and Thursday, September 6 (11 a.m.-1 p.m.) for a Contact Improvisation LAB session at Inkub8 that’s open to the general public and dance professionals. Zeidel is a Berlin-based CI dancer and teacher who creates carries us into “opening spaces where dance in all its magic and play can happen.” Zeidel has taught around the world and she’ll be in Miami for one week only.

An exploration of how to fall together, moving through space together through all levels – between earth and sky – sharing one common center of weight. Trusting each other, relying on one another, we begin to take risks, asking for support, offering support.

“We will discover freedom in three-dimensional movement, experiencing a state of readiness for what is happening now,” Zeidel says. “Thereby opening possibilities and expanding our understanding of movement choices.”

LAB Schedule, Tuesday, September 4 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and Thursday, September 6 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Cost: $10 per individual per LAB. For more information about Elska Zeidel visit www.improtanz.de and canarian.contactfestival.info.
