The last North Carolina Dance Theatre Summer Camp for children ages 5-6 is fast approaching. At the Patricia McBride & Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux Center for Dance, fairytales have been coming to life all summer long through dance, music, crafts and performance. This last camp will explore Sleeping Beauty and the Prince from July 30 – August 3.

Each weeklong camp meets from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m., Monday through Friday and culminates in a performance on Friday. At $225 a camp, this will be a wonderful opportunity to introduce children to dance, movement and dramatic play. Enrollment is still open and made easy online!

Dancers will learn about Princess Aurora, her Prince and the sorceress Carabosse against the classic music of Tchaikovsky. NC Dance Theatre enthusiasts will remember Alessandra Ball and Anna Gerberich as Princess Aurora in the Dance Theatre’s March performance of “Sleeping Beauty.” Choreographed by Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux, president and artistic director, the ballet featured 80 dancers with opulent sets and costumes. At the camp this summer, dancers will get the chance to watch a NC Dance Theatre dancer perform as Princess Aurora.

The North Carolina Dance Theatre was formed in 1970 by Robert Lindgren and moved to Charlotte in 1990. Since then, the Company has been awarded the Arts & Science Council’s Advancement of Excellence Grant in 1999 and been one of only nine selected to perform at the Kennedy Center’s “Ballet Across America” program in 2010. Ground broke in 2009 for the Dance Theatre’s state-of-the-art, 34,000-square-foot facility at 701 North Tryon Street, next to the McColl Center for Visual Art.

The Dance Theatre will kick off its 2012/2013 season in October with “Limitless,” a ballet featuring choreographed works by Sasha Janes, Dwight Rhoden and Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux.
