Forbidden Broadway Opens At Arsht Center

Tis’ the season for satire! This December 14th, the long-running uber-popular Off-Broadway Tony award-winning musical comedy Forbidden Broadway opens at the Arsht Center for a limited two-week run.

Forbidden Broadway lovingly roasts and skewers Broadway’s biggest and most popular shows and stars. This witty and rambuncous show promises to deliver big laughs in rapid-fire delivery as the show usually presents 10-20 sketches within the course of a 60-minute show. The outrageous costumes and props (see above) are a delight and sometimes steal the show. Watch out Mickey Mouse!

This year’s show will take aim at In the Heights, Jersey Boys, Wicked, Spring Awakening, Mamma Mia! Plus, the show will reference old favorites–Phantom of the Opera, Little Shop of Horrors, Les Misérables and Chicago. But, that’s not all. Mel Brooks’ 1974 comedy Young Frankenstein will be in the crossfire and a comic tribute (lampoon) to Stephen Sondheim is planned.

Forbidden Broadway, created by Gerard Alessandrini, debuted at Palsson’s Supper Club on New York’s Upper West Side in January 1982. According to its official website, Forbidden Broadway “provides an informal and very funny history of the American musical theatre.” This may be true. However, what’s certainly true is that you’ll laugh like mad regardless of what you may learn about New York’s theatre scene.

Forbidden Broadway open December 14-26, 2PM & 7PM, Carnival Studio Theater at the Arsht Center. Tickets: $50. For more information visit www.arshtcenter.org or call (305) 949 – 6722.
