“Gerald Ford Superfreak” opens at the South Beach Comedy Festival
When I read the title, “Gerald Ford Superfreak,” I laughed uncontrollably. I felt guilty for three seconds and then I chilled out. You see, it’s a comedy, so I had responded appropriately for once. “Gerald Ford Superfreak,” the latest comedy from Mad Cat Theatre Company, opens next month at a very appropriate venue—the South Beach Comedy Festival. The one-night-only performance is set for Wednesday, April 2nd at 8:30 p.m.
Good comedy makes us laugh. In the hands of Mad Cat Theatre writers Jessica Farr, Theo Reyna and Paul Tei, this play will most likely inspire spontaneous outbursts of uncontrollable joy and tears of happiness. The play, directed by Paul Tei, explores the butterfly effect of history and demonstrates, from an absurdist lens, “how the effects of Gerald Ford’s presidency carried over to our country’s leadership in the year 2112–as told by a surprise narrator from the future.” I’m guessing the surprise narrator is Gerald Ford, but it may be wrong.
The 6th Annual South Beach Comedy Festival returns to Miami Beach Tuesday, April 1st to Sunday, April 6th. The festival features the world’s funniest entertainers. The Festival will utilize multiple locations Miami Beach, including the Fillmore Miami Beach, the Colony Theatre and Backstage at the Fillmore venue. For a full list of performances scheduled for the festival, visit www.southbeachcomedyfestival.com.
The one-night-only performance of “Gerald Ford Superfreak” will take place on Wednesday April 2 at 8:30 p.m. (bar opens 7:45 p.m.) at the Fillmore Miami Beach at Jackie Gleason Theater.
