Hubbard Street Dance Chicago Comes to Miami
It’s short notice but this Saturday, Dec. 11, the innovative and awe-inspiring Hubbard Street Dance Company will take your breath away at the Arsht Center. Their imaginative international repertory includes works by the world’s greatest choreographers with repertory pieces by Ohad Naharin, Jirí Kylián and Alejandro Cerrudo with music by Mason Bates.
I’ve never seen Hubbard Street Dance Chicago live, however my research (thank you, YouTube!) confirms what the Chicago Sun-Times says: “the troupe’s power has to do with far more than bravura technique; flawless dancing is simply a given at Hubbard Street.” This power is evident in the athleticism of the fast-paced and anything but blank-slate dance by Ohad Naharin called “Tabula Rasa” and “Lickety-Split” by Alejandro Cerrudo. The artists fly.
There will also be a contemporary ballet master class at 10 a.m. on the day of the event in the Peacock Foundation Studio at the Arsht Center for ages 16 and up. Intermediate level dancers and above are welcome. The master class is free, but you must reserve a space by calling 786.468.2270. Please note that the performance Saturday night contains brief nudity and may not be appropriate for kids.
Saturday, Dec. 11, 8 p.m., Sanford and Dolores Ziff Dance Series, Arsht Center, Tickets $25 – $90. For more information call 305.949.6722 or visit www.arshtcenter.org.
