Inside TU Dance’s ninth season

By Abdo Sayegh, TU Dance

TU Dance opened its ninth season at the O’Shaughnessy, November 16-18, 2013, featuring Feather and Bone, a new work by Artistic Director Uri Sands, who was inspired by the work of Canadian photographer Gregory Colbert. Reflecting particularly on Colbert’s Eagle With Dancer, Sands’ new work examined the delicate balance of companionship through a series of solos and duets.  Other works in the program were Strum by Camille A. Brown which premiered in May 2012, and repertory favorites Amusement of the Gods and Earth by Uri Sands.

TU Dance is also thrilled to share that national PBS NewsHour aired a story on TU Dance and TU Dance Center a few days ago.  This feature, so thoughtfully created by journalist Fred de Sam Lazaro and his team, really captures our deepest intentions for the performing company and for our educational mission at the Center.  Toni and Uri are grateful to Fred de Sam Lazaro and Nikki for their work, and to our students, teachers, performing artists and to all who participated for sharing their work with such passion.  Next for TU Dance is its national tour, visiting New York for the Arts Presenters Conference (APAP) and continuing with performances and outreach activities in San Antonio, Rapid City, Sioux Falls, Worthington and the Virginia Arts Festival in Norfolk.  Other cities yet to be confirmed.
