INSIGHTS: Jardí Tancat

By Emily Parkinson, Miami City Ballet

Performing Nacho Duato’s Jardí Tancat has been a new experience for our dancers and audiences alike. As the first Duato work in our repertoire, the grounded, lyrical choreography danced barefoot to the soulful music of Maria del Mar Bonet has certainly stretched our dancers boundaries. For our audiences, this ballet is unlike anything you have ever seen Miami City Ballet perform!

Over the years, The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation has played a major role in making new artistic experiences like these possible. In this video Kevin Irving — répétiteur for Jardí Tancat and Artistic Director of Oregon Ballet Theatre — shares the meaning behind this profoundly Spanish work. Discover what’s inside the closed garden in our latest INSIGHTS video.

Catch Jardí Tancat performed live during Program II: See the Music — Jan. 24-26 (Broward Center, Ft. Lauderdale) or Jan. 31- Feb. 2 (Kravis Center, West Palm Beach). Visit miamicityballet.org.
