Interactivo comes to Miami from Cuba for one night only

Last Friday I commandeered the comfy offices of FUNDarte. Elizabeth Doud, FUNDarte’s Artistic & Development Consultant, escorted me to a cushioned rocking chair on the balcony. From my perch I could see the teeniest sliver of ocean in the distance, or maybe it was just the sky. Whatever it was, I also got a peek into FUNDarte’s inner workings and collaborative nature as the team prepared for Interactivo—one of Cuba’s most notorious rock bands.

Interactivo.

Based in Havana, Cuba, Interactivo is a music collective founded by Roberto Carcassés and includes musicians Francis del Rio, William Vivanco and Telmary. Interactivo’s style is free-form, experimental and collaborative. The group derives its sound from the core strengths of each musician, rather than pinning themselves to a particular genre.

“They serve up a special brand of Cuban fusion, with Timba, Rock, Jazz, Hip Hop and other new tropical genres filtered by the genius arrangements and sizzling performances of many of Cuba’s most talented and world-renowned musicians, singers and songwriters of today,” said Ever Chavez, founder and president of FUNDarte.

For one night only, Interactivo hits the Miami-Dade County Auditorium on Saturday, March 8 at 9 p.m. “They’re awesome. You’ve got to come see them next Saturday,” Doud exclaimed as I rocked back and forth inhaling an easterly sea breeze. “I think I will,” I said. And I think you should, too.

Interactivo will perform on Saturday, March 8 at 9 p.m. at the Miami-Dade County Auditorium, 2901 W. Flagler St.; 305-547-5414. Tickets are available on www.ticketmaster.com or by calling 800-745-3000. Cost: $30-40 ($5 off for students and seniors). For more information, call the Miami-Dade County Auditorium at 305-547 5414.
