Jump in the residency with Cannonball

Take a look at a Cannonball residency.

Get your act together by Aug. 12. That’s when the residency application process for the 2014 year closes, at midnight, for Cannonball (formerly LegalArt, and a Knight Art Challenge Grant winner). Both local and visiting artists, curators, writers and other arts professionals are eligible to apply. Previous residents at the downtown space have included a nice mix of performance and visual artists (and some involved with both), such as the TM Sisters, Manny Prieres, Viking Funeral, Jiae Hwang and Pioneer Winter.

The hope is that the residency will foster cultural communication on a number of levels – among artists living there, and with the general public through studio visits and shows. Throughout the residency, Cannonball will continue to produce its seminars and professional services and other art events.

The handful of artists who are chosen will live and work in the three-story building for close to 12 months, from Feb. 1, 2014 to Jan. 15, 2015. Every artists gets a live-work studio, with utilities and Internet included, for $450 per month. There are laundry facilities, a full kitchen and shared lounging spaces, which the artists are encouraged to make use of – part of that bonding process. Oh, and one parking space. The residency for visiting artists (they must come from outside Miami-Dade) lasts one to three months, with some travel expenses included. It’s a pretty good deal all around.
