We’re living in a time of incredible change. In 2011, the nation’s Hispanic population reached 52 million, an increase of 48% from 2000, according to a Pew Research Center analysis. Now more than ever we have the chance to engage our country’s diverse people in helping build more inclusive local arts and culture. To that end, we’re excited to announce that my colleague Tatiana Hernandez, Knight Foundation’s arts associate, will be joining the Board of Directors of the National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures (NALAC).

NALAC is the leading nonprofit organization dedicated exclusively to the promotion, advancement, development and cultivation of Latino arts. Led by a dedicated group of individuals, it is fiercely committed to providing a voice for Latino arts and culture in all its forms and manifestations.

NALAC’s work is critical. Since 1989, it has led in the funding, service and advocacy benefitting Latino arts. In an under-resourced environment, the association has helped artists from the visual arts, theater, dance, mixed media and more.  We’re looking forward to seeing Tatiana help make an impact throughout the next three years.
