The LegalArt Residency, supported by a generous grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, has been up and running for six months. LegalArt’s residency includes five local artists who work and live in Miami as well as a visiting residency for national and international artists, writers, and curators. Our current Miami resident artists, Pachi Giustinian, Jiae Hwang, Manny Prieres, TM Sisters, and Viking Funeral have been in the space since October working and collaborating with one another. Our first visiting international artist, Rosell Messeguer, joined us in November and was here through Art Basel. Our first writer, poet Sandra Beasley, just left after teaching workshops and delivering a reading during our Open Studios event on February 17th.

The open studios have been a huge success. Our last open studio attracted more than 250 people. At our last open studio, two artists were commissioned to do three pieces for the bistro, Nemesis, opening downstairs. It is an exciting time to be part of the LegalArt residency.
